Tracheotomy

To bypass an obstructed upper airway (e.g., swelling, tumor, foreign body).

To allow long-term mechanical ventilation (ICU patients).

To remove secretions more easily in patients with weak cough reflex.

In severe trauma to the face or mouth where normal intubation isn’t possible.
